Information Trigger Events

Trigger Events are the specific occurrences during the lifecycle of an asset that necessitate the creation, update, or exchange of information. Identifying these events ensures that the Asset Information Model (AIM) remains current and valuable for operations.

1. Foreseen Triggers

Planned occurrences scheduled in advance. These are predictable and allow for proactive resource allocation.

  • Regular preventative maintenance
  • Statutory safety inspections
  • Scheduled equipment replacements

2. Unforeseen Triggers

Random or infrequent occurrences where planning in advance is impractical. These require reactive information management.

  • Acts of God (e.g., Earthquakes, Floods)
  • Sudden equipment failure
  • Accidental damage or lightning strikes

BIM Manager Note: For each trigger event, the Asset Information Requirements (AIR) must define the specific data fields and documents required to restore the digital twin to its baseline state.
